Elevated serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha after bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage.

چکیده
Fiberoptic bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage are often followed by the development of fever and other influenza-like symptoms. We report the onset of these symptoms in a healthy volunteer following bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage; the symptoms were temporally associated with the dramatic elevation of serum levels of tumor necrosis factor. Our observations suggest that tumor necrosis factor may be involved in mediating fever and other influenza-like symptoms occurring after bronchoscopy.

Immunological findings in blood and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in chronic bronchitis patients with recurrent infectious exacerbations.
Bronchial infections are common in smokers and seem to be related to the presence of chronic bronchitis (CB). Why only some smokers develop repeated bronchial infections is not known. The aim of this study was to screen for immunological changes associated with disease in patients with CB and recurrent infectious exacerbations compared to asymptomatic smokers. Sixteen smokers with stable CB and...
متن کاملAltered cytokine levels in bronchoalveolar lavage fluids from patients with mycoplasma pneumonia infection
Many reports have demonstrated that Mycoplasma pneumonia (M. pneumoniae) infection may cause the release of multiple cytokines into sputum or serum samples. However, studies focusing on bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) samples are scarce. The aim of this study was to identify the cytokines associated with M. pneumoniae infection, and explore the possible factors affecting their secretion dur...
متن کاملBronchoalveolar and systemic cytokine profiles in patients with ARDS, severe pneumonia and cardiogenic pulmonary oedema.
The aim of this study was to investigate whether bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and serum levels of proinflammatory cytokines discriminate between different entities of patients with acute respiratory failure. BAL and circulating concentrations of interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8) and tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) were measured in 74 mechanically-ventilated patients and 17 hea...
متن کاملThe Effects of Interleukin-1β in Tumor Necrosis Factor-α-Induced Acute Pulmonary Inflammation in Mice
We determined the role of interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) signaling on tumor necrosis factor alpha-induced (TNF-alpha) lung neutrophil influx as well as neutrophil chemoattractant macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP-2) and KC and soluble TNF-alpha receptor (TNFR) levels utilizing wildtype (WT), TNF receptor double knockout (TNFR1/TNFR2 KO), and IL-1beta KO mice after oropharyngeal instillation wi...
متن کاملAttenuated allergic responses to house dust mite antigen in feed-restricted rats.
Caloric restriction has been shown to alter a broad range of immunological end points in both experimental animals and humans. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of short-term moderate feed restriction (25% reduction) on allergic immune responses in Brown Norway rats. After 3 weeks of acclimation to their feed regimens, rats were sensitized and 2 weeks later challenged wi...
